Za razliku od hrvatskog, u engleskom jeziku red riječi je strogo određen i gotovo uvijek isti.

Možemo primijetiti da svaka rečenica započinje sintagmom (Electric cars), imenicom (Parents, Mark) ili zamjenicom (I). Taj početak rečenice nazivamo subjektom, a nakon toga

Verb

We might have had lengthy debates. (Moguće je da smo imali duge rasprave.)
Adverbial
I have a meeting at noon. (Imam sastanak u podne.)
He ate his breakfast very quickly. (Brzo je pojeo svoj doručak.)
Your bag weighs five kilos. (Tvoja torba teži pet kila.)
I’ll call you when I arrive. (Nazvat ću te kada stignem.)
Complements
That tall man over there is dr. Smith. (Onaj visoki čovjek je dr. Smith.)
