Extreme Weather

increasing. This spring the West Coast of the United States was struck (22)
extreme flooding after hot temperatures followed a heavy winter snowfall. An early summer heat-wave in Europe broke records and caused wildfires across the region. Sudan is in the middle of a humanitarian crisis (23)
being hit by severe drought and famine. All around the world, weather events are making the lives of millions more difficult and dangerous.
While climate change often means higher average global temperatures, we (24)
see that much more drastic changes influence specific locations. Increased temperatures speed up evaporation creating a lot of water vapour in the atmosphere. This results in intense weather events (25)
as sudden hail and flash floods. Leading scientists predict that extreme weather events will continue to rise.
