Central Park is one of New York's major attractions. This huge park, 3.41 square km in size, is located in the centre Manhattan. The park includes lakes, theatres, ice rinks, fountains, tennis courts, baseball fields and many playgrounds, the Central Park Zoo and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Over 160 years ago more a hundred thousand trees were planted and a large reservoir-lake was dug out. No wonder took 15 years for the 20,000 workers to complete the park. After opening in 1857, it once became extremely popular. Its designer, Frederic Law Olmstead, wanted to create a place people from both upper and lower classes could meet and relax. It was a rather revolutionary idea at the time.
