Catherine Destivelle – Rock Star
Catherine Destivelle (born 24 July 1960) is an Algeria-born French rock climber and mountaineer. She has set many records in free solo rock climbing, a form of free climbing (0) where climbers climb without equipment.. When Destivelle was a young teenager, the family moved to France . She did not take up a professional career in rock climbing until 1985. In 1990, she free-climbed the Nameless Tower in Pakistan. In 1992, she became the first woman. In 1994, she climbed the southwest face of Shishapangma Mountain. In 1996, she set another record. Unfortunately, the expedition was cut short after Destivelle fell and broke her leg . Destivelle now has an active career as a lecturer and writer.
